I’ve been waiting for this.

I’ve just started a 6 week Kundalini Yoga class in Calgary.

I’ve been waiting for this.

I’ve been studying and practicing this lineage of yoga for almost a year now. There’s something about the sound current of chant and of mudra that speaks deeply to me.

I’ve been waiting for this.

I was pretty fired up on Saturday as I anticipated just how much I was going to learn from this class. How many changes were going to happen in my life. All the grand things I was going to leave the first session thinking about.

Our beautiful instructor, Myrah, led us through our first practice. An awakening of energy for lesson one. Primal Shakti energy. If you’ve been exposed to Kundalini, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, you will know that the asana in this lineage is a little bit different than that of Hatha, Ashtanga and Bikram styles. My energy was being awakened annnnd my arms were screaming. Myrah talked about letting go of the being pissed off part. We laughed.

When I’ve registered for classes, or set goals or planned experiences, I’ve often done so with a preconceived notion or idea about what I am going to experience. How it’s going to change me. It’s a control thing, I know. I’m working on it. I have a picture painted in my head. I have a plan. I have an expectation. A glorious expectation. Things in this realm of my life, I want them to follow exactly how I’ve envisioned them playing out. If I’m making a change, then the results? They better be stellar and larger than life. I crave, I desire big, bold shiny outcomes. I want the fireworks and the hoopla. I love grandeur. I have expectations. You probably do, too.

The most potent phrase from Saturday?

Notice the Subtleties.

Your expectations ARE being met within the small subtle shifts that you, quite possibly, aren’t even aware of. Learning to become aware of those shifts will enable you to see and feel right down to the very cellular level of you. The base layer of your core. The shifts so small and inconspicuous that are taking place to create those larger grander changes. Changes are always happening and they are small and they are subtle. These small subtleties are the ground laying shifts for bigger change.

I’ve taken that phrase, Notice the Subtleties, into all of my practices this week. I’ve become aware of the small shifts that are occurring. I’ve noticed that I’m very aware of how things are changing me on a level I’m not sure I was aware of before. I’m loving the knowledge that tiny, seemingly inconspicuous shifts are lining up to create something for me.

Notice the Subtleties.

I’ve been waiting for this.
